Norton Model 16H
Best considered a project albeit a running one…
This machine has been restored but we would advise it needs some work to bring it up to a safe and acceptable standard for riding. Last MOTd in 2012 and reportedly ridden without problems and it starts easily and runs without undue smoke or noise as you can see from the video. V5C says it was re-registered on 26/10/2011 presumably on this age related number which is non-transferrable. Date of first registration is stated as 01/11/1937 and numbers are as follows: Frame 21193, Engine W93691.
Please call to discuss and feel free to make an offer for the bike as seen. Having been over it in the workshop we feel it is a good project for someone with time to make good and improve on previous fettlers’ efforts. Jobs on the top of the list would be to time the ignition properly and fit a new wiring loom, which are readily available and would allow significant improvement to the electrics, which do not work properly at the moment. The dynamo itself is charging and the lights are there so it’s worth doing if you have the time and inclination, or we can do it for a new owner of course. Horn is in the wrong place; as is the tank; the result of home-made brackets of dubious quality, and use of later chain adjusters and metric fittings warn us of improvement opportunities yet to be discovered. The spokes on the front wheel are very thin in places and the wheels have been powder coated as one unit which looks nice but doesn’t facilitate any adjustment. On the plus side the tank is good inside and out, the engine is mechanically quiet and it has the lovely look and feel of a 1937 girder fork side-valve big Norton single. Take as is or ask us to improve to a level you are happy with if you prefer.
