Sunbeam Model 9
Sunbeam Model 9 twin-port, a superb restoration with excellent provenance.
Lots of history with this fine machine, originally supplied to Sheffield City Police and still retaining the original engine, frame and registration numbers. The V5C records two former keepers but the old log book confirms four. There are extensive notes on file including a full explanation of the restoration work by the owner who did it, supported by the local marque specialist. The details of the complete engine rebuild confirm it had new bearings throughout, new valves, guides and springs manufactured at Rolls Royce to original Police specification, balanced flywheels and all new oil pipes. The standard 3-speed gearbox was replaced with a 4-speed gearbox supplied by Robert Cordon-Champ which makes it very tractable and enjoyable to ride. The expertise of the specialists used in the restoration is unquestionable: Stewart Engineering, Vale Onslow, Percival Brothers and Webb and the crank was balanced by KLM Racing in Wembley. The extent of the rebuild notes, lack of owners and miles since the rebuild, and the overall quality of components; old and new; and workmanship set this machine apart from most. It is a very very good bike indeed and this is reflected in the price. The registration number is transferrable but please don’t. The bike has won awards at VMC concours events in the past and these referenced in a letter on file. The machine and former owner is well known to the membership secretary of the Owners Club with notes to that effect on file.
