Yamaha AS1
The mighty “Yassy” (YAS1) might not look like it but is a little racer on the road, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a giant slayer or just plain fun bike like all the iconic RD two-stoke twins that followed it. This is a genuine UK model, matching numbers with a rebuilt engine (receipt on file for crankshaft reconditioning). The engine rebuild was done by a gentleman well known to us; he always does a good job and it shows. These bikes are light and surprisingly fast for a 125 and this one will be one of the best when run-in. Cosmetically nice enough but close inspection reveals plenty of opportunity to improve things in the bling department. Noteworthy mentions are the paintwork which is not original and although the correct colour it’s not a professional job, some of the original chrome is less than perfect and the rear mudguard has been restored and silver painted (original chrome tinware on these is rare and expensive). On the plus side many of the original parts which are so hard to find for these models are present and correct; the air filters for example and a lovely re-covered seat which is so close to the original it passes any inspection. Handlebars are not original but are good compromise between the low UK bars and the high USA bars. Everything works including indicators and it charges well. Loadsa fun! How can this be 55 years old?
