Norton 750 Commando
10 years in the building; possibly the nearest you will get to a new Norton Commando in that much of it is actually new and all put together by the skilled and experienced hands of multiple Commando owner Gerry at Classic Bike Workshop. This really has been a labour of love and the end result, whilst proving a massive loss-making project (aren’t they all?), is a very satisfying machine to ride and admire. The engine is completely new inside (and out in some places – new barrels for example) and will need careful running in. Tank and side panels are new (of Indian manufacture), most of the tinware in fact, frame blasted and powder coated by our favourite painters, the best seat we could find, amazingly lovely silencers, new tyres on alloy rims, new wiring loom and electronic ignition. The list is endless, or it will be when we add it all up. Which is something I am leaving to the end because I wouldn’t be surprised if it hasn’t cost twice what it’s advertised for here. Really. Gerry doesn’t do things by halves. Matching numbers, original registration with a V5C and no other paperwork because it was literally built from a massive parts haul from a Norton-loving friend of ours. We used the best of everything and bought new whatever was missing. No expense spared, no corners cut, no deadlines or half measures. If a Commando ever came out of the factory this good it wasn’t on a Friday. Run it in, go round the world on it, it’s that good.
