Norton Commando 850
The best of the Commandos in many people’s opinion; feels like it on the road.
This matching numbers 850 Commando; pre electric start; is a good example of how well a nice one can look and ride. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s priced accordingly so you could afford to make some improvements, or just enjoy it as it is. Matching numbers and originally registered in Sweden, it’s just been imported by Classic Super Bikes and it’s been finely fettled by Classic Bike Workshop who report it to be in good health mechanically. You can hear how sweet it is actually and that’s running on points ignition with carburettors that certainly aren’t new. And it rides well too; really well. In fact it’s amazing how well it handles as CBW report some play in the swing arm bushes and also in the isolastic engine mounts. The mounts can simply be shimmed or replaced with easily adjustable isolastics but the swing arm bushes are a tougher job if and when you decided to do it. I didn’t notice it on the road but it’s in the report so I’ve mentioned it. The RGM disc brake conversion gives a noticeable improvement over the standard disc and suits the bike too. Cosmetically it’s not perfect with some scratches on the steel Interstate fuel tank (in good sound condition inside) and the quality of the pinstriping isn’t as good as we’d like. It looks great though and at this price it’s a fair investment in a good matching-numbers bike. It’ll be UK registered for you, all the paperwork is present and correct for a trouble-free registration in the name of the first UK owner since that long hot summer of 1976.
