Velocette Venom
Still some tidying to do and it could do with a new carb but we’re reluctant to put anything new on this “timewarp” machine which has been stored in the owner’s house for many years. Sympathetically recommissioned by Classic Bike Workshop, it runs nicely and indeed it found favour with Roy Poynting of The Classic Motorcycle magazine when he rode it recently. This very machine is pictured on the front cover of October 2018’s magazine and a four page report confirms “the engine is remarkably smooth and mechanically quiet at all speeds”. Sadly the paperwork was lost so re-registration is going to be necessary for the second owner and without documents the original registration is likely to be lost. This really is a beautiful example of how they were, and indeed how good they were. Dating certificates on file for both frame and engine; both Venom but not matching – the bike had an engine change very early in it’s life for reasons lost in the mists of time (owner’s son remembers the change but not the reason, original engine can’t be found). Who cares? It was ridden and loved as it is and will be again. New tyres might be an idea I guess? Leave it alone…
