Yamaha RD400
Restored matching numbers RD400C.
Yamaha’s bad boy of the ’70s two strokes, the difference with the RDs is they handled as well as wheelied! This European model was imported from the Netherlands and is now UK registered. Believed to have been restored in Holland, the engine has been rebuilt in the UK very recently but it’s still not the quietest top-end you ever heard. Reportedly runs and rides well, certainly has good compression, starts easily and idles reliably so we think it’s OK. Some cosmetic details let it down a bit hence the price, and if we had time we would probably have a look at the top end again to be sure, although a longer ride may satisfy us in that regard. Bargain price; take a look at it yourself because we haven’t got the workshop time at the moment.
