Yamaha RD500LC
Original unrestored UK matching numbers 1GE machine; very rare.
First registered in the UK on 29th April 1987; only five previous registered keepers and 31,077 recorded miles from new; so this is a very rare late 500LC in unrestored condition. The engine runs very sweetly, starting first kick every time, idling smoothly and quietly, performing well having suffered no abuse by the previous owner (never took it above 9,000 rpm). The owner before that was an avid and experienced classic Yamaha collector of some repute and we feel sure he had the engine refreshed which would explain how well this bike runs, and there may be some evidence of this to follow. Condition is excellent for an original unrestored machine but please note there is the odd crack, paint chip and cosmetic corrosion in places as you would expect of a bike approaching thirty years old. The underside of the fairing has deformed slightly under the heat of the exhaust in one place, but all the original heat shields under the seat and side panels remain, which is very rare. The wheels have been powder coated black recently, but otherwise original patina abounds, the seat being a particularly good example of original Yamaha upholstery the like of which we rarely see. The old V5, blue V5C and new red V5C are on file along with MOTs confirming mileage but only back to 2010 at 29,403 miles so early history is absent, again we are making enquiries but rarely turn up anything. All the evidence points to this bike being a very special example of Yamaha’s iconic and very rare V4 two stroke. We say ride it don’t restore it!
