A genuine (with certificate) Rocket Gold Star, single family ownership from 1967 (with both buyer and seller receipts), rebuilt and restored to a high standard. Just recommissioned at Classic Bike Workshop with invoice. Lots of new parts and paint, this really is a nut & bolt rebuild. Sadly no early log book but an old V5 and V5Cs confirm the numbers and ownership history which is simply this; one owner since 1967. It is sadly often the case with machines from deceased long-term owners that document files you just know must exist; or have existed; are not to be found. Likewise with what is clearly a carefully rebuilt engine and a fortune has been spent on the restoration but documentation only covers the recent work to finish the job and prepare it for sale. The bike tells the story itself though and will bear any inspection – make no mistake, this is a genuine Rocket Gold Star and not a replica. Original registration of course, and all the right parts in the right places. Not all original parts, the rims and spokes are stainless steel for example, as are many of the fittings, all of the highest quality and it all adds up to a quite stunning Clubman spec Rocket Goldie in concours condition. Starts easily and rides nicely too; really nicely; although brakes are all new so will feel a bit wooden until bedded in. That double-sided twin-leading-shoe front brake is a work of art and is very effective; clearly not original spec but the original SLS single-sider is in a box of spares, restored and looking like new. The gearbox feels like RRT2 ratios; tall first gear and close ratios after that; and I feel sure it is the original although casing is actually stamped RR2T. Those who know more than I may like to comment on this, all numbers available on request, this fine machine has nothing to hide. Comments on the video… you may notice the ammeter doesn’t show a charge, well the very new-looking dynamo couldn’t be coaxed into life so that’s away for a quality rebuild. And the tappets have quite correctly been set large to anticipate running in settlement so they will be adjusted and you can expect a quieter engine on tick-over after a few miles and a little fettle.
