Ducati 900SS
A quite exceptionally good example of Ducati’s iconic mid-90s Supersports twin. It’s all in the numbers: 7,505 miles from new, every year’s progression recorded on every MOT certificate since it was new. First registered in the UK on 26th August 1993 and the original sales invoice, service book and manual are still with it, along with every MOT and a collection of service and parts invoices. When exactly it was fitted with Mikuni flat-slide carburettors I don’t know; deeper delving into the history file might reveal more but this expensive modification is one we’ve heard of but never experienced before now. Whether it’s the flat-slides or the low mileage or the way it’s been looked after; probably a result of all these and a bit of luck; but it’s the best 900SS I have ridden and I’ve ridden lots and owned lots. It might even disappear into my garage for a while! It came to us with a record of the rear cylinder studs replacement and the front ones needing doing. So Classic Bike Workshop worked their magic and replaced the failing stainless studs with later new Ducati studs and gave it a valve service and new belts at the same time. Condition of the engine inside is exactly as you would expect a well maintained 7k miles Ducati twin to be: like new. Cosmetically it’s almost too good to be true; all original body panels in amazing unrestored condition, good engine condition (for a 900SS) and all standard apart from those carbs (and the associated lack of de-icer pipery). There is a little damage to the seat cover and the pillion cover is with it although not pictured here. New chain & sprockets, new tyres, new MOT…they don’t come better than this as an emerging classic which will appreciate in value whilst providing miles of smiles.
