One of the coolest and rarest singles to come out of Japan, if you’ve heard of the Goose; and you probably haven’t; you will know that they are rare and even rarer in the Special Edition model for sale here. As a lover of the iconic Gilera Nuovo Saturno Bialbero this all-Japanese Suzuki creation from the same designer seems almost familiar. Check out the frame, fuel tank, body styling and even the oversize chain guard screams Saturno.

Haven’t finished going on and on and on…. guess what the triangular metal insert below the tank is intended to resemnble? The Isle of Man TT’s GOOSEneck corner of course! It really is a style icon and combines classic looks with what was very very advanced technology in the early ’90s. Technically it’s interesting too. Not just a DR350 lump in there.. it’s a dry sump engine (beautiful finned oil tank under the front of the engine) and performance upgrades include a 40mm carburettor (33mm DR), higher bottom gear on the six-speed ‘box, 35% greater crankshaft mass for more torque, a more-squish piston (same 9.5:1 compression), different cylinder head porting, cam timing and lift (inlets only) and a free-flowing exhaust system. This takes the DR’s 26 bhp @7,600 rpm to 33 bhp @ 8,000 rpm on the Goose. The key to performance in a package with 33 hp is weight and just like the Gilera it scores here big-time; 144kg claimed dry weight makes it a blast to ride; fast or slow. Cool bike nobody has ever heard of. Alan Cathcart tested it for Cycle World magazine in June 1992 and loved it. We do too.
