The very rare model twin-downtube Bathtub pre-unit 6T Thunderbird! Verified original factory stamped matching numbers machine with only two former keepers on the registration document, original registration number and lots of rare original parts including the all-metal bathtub bodywork which is in excellent condition. This iron-engined single carb 650cc pre-unit twin is a joy to start and ride with it’s manual advance/retard ignition and easy going road manners. It’s a small, light and relatively low machine compared to later models and the classic “full enclosure” bathtub bodywork is a rare treat which is finally becoming appreciated for its looks as well as its practicality, after all these years. It really is an iconic Triumph twin in every respect. Stored for the last 20 years and just recommissioned by Classic Bike Workshop with an invoice for over £2,000 on file. The work included a complete re-wire, new generator and solid state regulator/rectifier, battery, switches, clutch, various cables and service parts. Under the seat the original tinware has survived and although it has obviously had some light restoration in the distant past it has a lovely patina consistent with a 64 year old. There is no centre stand fitted. Very good compression and a strong performance for such an easy-going engine; these things are bullet-proof and it has many happy miles in it for the next owner who will hopefully take full advantage of all the recent work and put some miles on it. Video shows how it runs nicely now, timed and tuned to start and run easily. Truly a lovely thing, light and low, strong easy power and a joy to ride. Quick-Shift gearbox works perfectly too! They are fun, way ahead of their time, amaze observers by pulling away and changing gear whilst indicating left (or waving like an idiot like me).
