Triumph 750 Bonneville retro special
We set out to build the best Bonnie we could based on the excellent but flawed T140V. And we achieved it… at a cost. The workshop records and parts list add up to almost £18,000 since we started this project almost 10 years ago. And here it is for sale at just over half what it cost; a great example of why you restore for love not money. It has worked out well though. Completely rebuilt engine, completely restored and re-engineered machine from top to bottom. Retro-styled side panels and exhausts give it the look of an older Bonneville whilst the conical rear brake conversion looks the part and dispenses with the diabolical rear disc lash-up found on the later 750s. Admittedly; being cable operated; it doesn’t work much better, but it won’t seize up and misbehave like the disc does. The engineering is pleasing and the result, whilst not being spectacular, will pass any inspection and it rides really well on the road. Will need careful running in as the engine is newly rebuilt to a very high standard. In fact everything has received the very best attention, from the powder-coated (not too heavy) frame to the new stainless mudguards, rims & spokes, we’ve done it exactly as we like it, no expense spared. We love it and intend to ride it so it may well become a keeper if we don’t find someone who shares our vision of the perfect 750 Bonnie. You couldn’t build it for twice this price… literally… we’ve proved it!
