SOR 56G was one of a batch of consecutive numbers machines supplied to the Hampshire Police by Fleet dealer and all-round Triumph legend Ken Heanes on 24th April 1969 and first registered on 22nd July 1969. There is a nice history file with this machine which includes a huge collection of old MOT certificates, old tax discs, manuals, invoices etc. Not a matching numbers machine (in that frame and engine are not the same) but very few of the “P” police models are now and the service replacement engine is recorded as such and they were all stamped with their unique “SR” numbers by the factory so it’s the result of a life in service. Now retired of course and nicely restored to an improved civilian specification in many respects.

This fine machine was restored by the owner-before-last in 2005/2006, fitted with a Morgo 750 cylinder, tappet blocks and pistons in 2014 (about 8k miles ago) and had a comprehensive bottom-end rebuild in 2018 (about 4k miles ago) all by a respected local motorcycle engineer who rode it himself for a few years before letting it go. There is a stack of paperwork attesting to this mechanical attention on file and the last owner has enjoyed reliable riding over the last 7 years. The motorcycle is non-standard in a number of respects despite retaining all the important numbers and some of the Police spec. including the chronometric speedometer; now paired with an electronic tachometer. Some of the more notable modifications and improvements are…  Mikuni VM32 carburettor, Pazon electronic ignition, Scottoiler, stainless tank rack, sealed battery and most nuts & bolts are correct UNF stainless steel of the highest quality. The paintwork was done by David Burton of YJBS (Yeovil) and the lack of oil leaks says something about the quality of work and ownership.

A proven riders machine offering improved 750cc performance and reliability with the beauty of a nice restoration in maroon/silver with good attention to detail throughout, not to mention responsible sympathetic recent ownership by a gentleman who is wisely passing it on due to his advancing age.
