Valuable models are often the first or last of an iconic series. The final 888 Sport Production of 1993 was limited to 500 worldwide, every one with a numbered plaque on the top yoke, this one number 224. It’s the one to have. SPS high performance engine, SP4 cooling system, twin injectors, Pankl rods and a close ratio gearbox define this model as the performance benchmark for twins of this era. Chassis improvements on this final edition included fully floating rear brake and braided lines. Ian Falloon tells it like it is in his definitive standard catalog of Ducati Motorcycles…”Although there have been annual limited edition higher-performance series since the 888, the 888 SPs were different. These machines were loud, hard-edged race replicas offering considerably more performance than an 851 or 888 Strada. They were also built in fewer numbers than later SPs, and their rarity has resulted in diminished appreciation of their qualities.” This explains their current values and this is without doubt one of the most collectable Ducatis of all time. This one has only 9 recorded kilometers from new and as you can see it’s in as-new condition with very few exceptions. Even the tyres are original.
