Restored around 2004, low miles and owners, with original documents.

A relatively rare find: a nice Silver Jubilee Bonnie! Easy to find a shiny unused one with the paint and chrome clinging on just waiting to fall off at the first hint of use or a good clean, or scruffy ones that have been used and paid the price. But here’s a UK spec one that has been painted well and has lost the chrome engine cases to very good cosmetic effect at the slight expense of originality. I wouldn’t normaly sacrifice orignality to restoration but in this case it’s excusable because the orginal finish was so poor. Only four former keepers on the V5C and 7,849 miles on the clock make it an attractive machine to own. Matching numbers of course. There are no MOTs (other than the current one) on file to verify the mileage but low mileage is typical on these “investment machines” and it sounds mechanically like a 7k miler which has been looked after. There is a big file of receipts for parts used in the restoration, confirming it was all painted and stainless spokes fitted to what look very much like original rims; Dunlop on the rear anyway. All the usual T140 replacement parts are recorded over the years including a rear brake master cylinder, chrome headlamp and fork brackets to name a few. The seat looks original and that supports the low mileage too, although there is a very small hole in the top of the cover. Electrics are in good shape; Boyer electronic ignition fitted with a modern reg/rec to keep everything cool and not on fire. The silencers were replaced around 2004 and are fine but the chrome isn’t perfect in places. One sidepanel is sligtly cracked but it’s only cosmetic, generally very nice but not too nice to ride. Really good news is the presence of the original handbook and Warranty card and most importantly the Certificate of Ownership headed “Ride a living legend” in the name of the first owner; GB Law; and signed by the Chairman of Meriden Motorcycles Limited and the dealer; Slocombes Ltd; on 5th September 1977.
